Kerry Group in partnership with NEWKD are proud to present a Community Vibrancy Recognition Programme Award to the Ballybunion Senior Citizens Meals On Wheels initiative, to recognise their valuable contribution to the:
- Community Vibrancy of the North Kerry Area;
- Addressing rural isolation through delivering social supports;
- Community & Rural Leadership.
Established in the mid-1980’s the Senior Citizens group has provided much-needed and varied activities and care for older people in the Ballybunion and surrounding areas. Volunteers were instrumental in its establishment and continue to play a vital role in the running of all activities, including the establishment of the Meals On Wheels service in 2015, which has been supported by NEWKD through the Rural Social Scheme (RSS) and the Listowel office.
John Stack, Chairperson of NEWKD said that the organisation is “delighted to be associated with and continue to support Ballybunion Meals On Wheels, which is a wonderful example of how local volunteers – with the help of NEWKD staff and participants – can develop and maintain a vital and valuable support service for rural people.”
Frank Hayes, Director of Corporate Affairs, Kerry Group, congratulated the Meals On Wheels service which he said “makes a hugely important contribution to the physical and social wellbeing of more vulnerable community members and all the volunteers should be extremely proud of the part they play in providing such vital support.”
